The Top 5 'successors' of Charmaine Sheh; Artists' response to her departure

Charmaine Sheh has intentions to leave TVB, the 'successors' is believed to be a hot topic. There are currently 5 FaDans that have a great chance to get up top.

#1: Fala Chen
Age: 29
Breakthrough role:
The Stew of Life, she appeared in a bra on TV leading to heated discussions among Netizens.

Chances of Rising: Charmaine once mentioned that Fala is highly flexible. Earlier her performance in No Regrets as pitiful Ching Ching won praises.

#2: Kate Tsui
Age: 31
Breakthrough role:
Her role as a police officer in the film Eye In The Sky got good responses. This also won her the "Best New Performer" at the Hong Kong Film Awards.

Chances of Rising:
Kate can act, sing and dance. Besides series and music, her potential catches the attention of many film directors. Just like last year she took part in 14 Blades.

#3: Tavia Yeung
Age: 31
Breakthrough role:
Her big villian role as Yiu Kam Ling in Beyond the Realm of Conscience confirmed her first line TVB Fadan position.

Chances of Rising:
Tavia joined TVB's training class in 1999, after 10+ years of endurance, she depended on the one role 'Yiu Kam King' to challenge Charmaine and won the "My Favorite TV Female Character" award.

#4: Linda Chung
Age: 26
Breakthrough role:
She had an 'exposive' role in Heart of Greed as Seung Joi Sum. Audience also agreed that she is an on-screen couple with Raymond Lam.

Chances of Rising:
She is the youngest of the 5 Fadans, and has good audience fate. However, Linda's voice is too delicate, so she's often in those innocent girl roles. Her hidden potential has not had the chance to develop.

#5: Myolie Wu
Age: 31
Breakthrough role:
In War of In-Laws, Myolie played the barbaric daughter-in-law striking at mother-in-law Liza Wang and got praises.

Chances of Rising:
Although she's teased as the "Wu Gwing Yee" (Sad/Depressed look), over the past several years she's willing to sacrifice and fight. In 2006, she madly gained weight for her fat girl role in To Grow With Love. Her professional spirit is well worth the praise.

Artists respond to Charmaine's departure from TVB

Myolie Wu said Charmaine has the fame and benefits, heading out to Mainland is to seek breakthrough: "After all, there are a lot more artists and directors to collaborate with, perhaps she's looking at that too! Even if she doesn't sign with TVB, she can still shoot TVB series. (She's gone, you have more leading roles and series?) That fast? There are still a lot of people in TVB, what's most important is everyone gets an opportunity."

Currently a rising star, Natalie Tong expressed she really wanted to collaborate with Charmaine, she had always been her target. Natalie was asked if she'll have more chances to rise up to the top now that Charmaine is leaving? She said: "Everyone has a different direction, she's not leaving, even if she signs a per series contract, she can still shoot series for TVB."

Bernice Liu is also another one rumored to be leaving, but she expressed she's not sure of Charmaine's contract. She said Charmaine a very talented artist, as long as she's happy with her decision, that's all that matters.

Yoyo Mung said that leaving TVB just means she's changing the contract form. Yoyo strongly supported Charmaine's decision: "It's not a complete break off, just as people get older, starts wanting a new environment."

****These are opinions. You could give your opinion. If criticism, please give constructive criticism and respect everybody's opinions.****

Thoughts: Not surprising that the top 5 are Fala, Kate, Tavia, Linda and Myolie as they have already been discussed about before this article was even published. Out of the 5, I'd say Tavia has the strongest foundation for acting, but for roles variety, Fala would be the one who have the most, and portrayed well in all. I actually see the highest potential in both of them, but for Tavia, i see something missing when she leads.....but don't know what word to use. It just seems like she does not have the presence as the leading lady in the series. I hope that will soon be proven wrong after more of her series though.....And for Fala, she still need abit more time to stabilize as the first lead and polish on her acting skills.

As for Linda, she does have the acting, but in ways, can improve and polish it. She also have the most leading roles and is capable of handling a series.....I just find that she needs a more variety of characters to truly prove that she has the versatility. It is a high chance that she could success Charmaine, because I find that they have alot of similarities.

Kate. In one of my previous posts, I've mentioned about Kate in her series and I still have the same thoughts now. She has these really special eyes that makes her perfect to play an evil role. As for innocent roles, she's ok in them....but when she stares at someone, I can't....but feel an evil presence of the character. Acting wise, she's still below the other four (my opinion after watching When Lanes Merge). She needs more emotion, both in body and oral language.

Now lastly, Myolie. I haven't seen Myolie in a very long time, so I have no definite opinion on her yet.

At the mention of the younger generation. Selena Li and Nancy Wu are the two that came straight into my mind. It is sad to see the two being underrated as they both have the talent. If only TVB gave them a chance, they could really shine...

Who do you think it's going to be though, IF Charmaine does leave? Vote on the side POll! And Please, it'll be best if personal favorites are not part of this =)

personally, i think all 5 of them are really great actresses ! but like you said, nancy came straight to my mind too. i was quite upset when her name didnt appear in the 5. i seriously think nancy wu is awesome and she acts really well. i feel that TVB ought to give her a chance and let her try a leading role. i believe she will do well ! good luck to nancy !
others like selena, natalie and shirley are pretty good too

back again!

personally, i want to see nancy shine. like most have said, she has the potential, yet limited opportunities. e.g twins brothers, gun metal grey, i find nancy almost outshine our female leads in terms of portraying her character.

as for our top 5. KATE!!!! nah jokes! personally i think they are all pretty much up to par with each other. all just waiting for a "breakthrough" to gain the Big sis title.

btw, is it me or does kate seems to have alot series under her belt this year-2011??? [as in filming and releasing - FH3, Great way to care, Relic, sneak, that valentines special mini]

I'm rooting for tavia, not just because i'm a tavia fan, but i really do see her having the most potential to be the number one fadan. i especially admire her for the dedication and perseverance she had to put through and not just attend a pageant and got a contract, not that the other's don't have talent or anything, but i find her more deserving. fala is a close second for me as well just because she really did have a whole variety of characters, i din't like her in the beginning, but she's starting to grow on me, as for kate and myolie...i never liked either one and personally i don't pay much attention to their acting and i don't care much for them hahaha i'm really aniticipating who'll be the top fadan, i feel like this topic is always discussed, but there's never an answer hahah

@may: agreed! Nancy is actually the person I want tvb to promote the most right now!! She is really capable in diff. kinds of characters.

@Anonymous: same thing I said to may ;)

Yah, Kate have been having a lot of series lately. Seems like TVB is really wanting her to pair up with Ron too. wanting to promote a couple up =)

@Rachel: Haha, yah since nobody can read the future xD it might surprise all of us who might be the next number one. Of course, Charmaine still have not confirm her leave...so it's still unknown. Was not a good idea for tvb to push their artistes to mainland. But good for the artists b/c it's probably better for them.

I absolutely agree with your opinion Rachel! You said everything I wanted to say. As for the younger generation, I agree with may. I really like Selena and Nancy. Natalie Tong's good too, so I'm glad she's beginning to become more promoted

I'm happy that Selena's name is mentioned. I like both Selena and Nancy, but somehow I prefer Selena, maybe because she gives me a more gentler feel. She's a very good actress, probably even better than Kate. But I'm sad that TVB doesn't promote her.
