[What's Up] Jan.27, 2013

First of all, school. It's been dictating my life for the past few weeks but I am surprisingly enjoying my classes, especially biology! As for tvb, I've actually been watching alot of tvb series! Unfortunately none are of the latest though :P

1) The Conqueror's Story ft Adam Cheng and Kwong Wah
The Conqueror's Story was an exception, since whenever I re-watch something, they're usually comedies. But since I loved the series alot (and terribly misses Kwong Wah), I really wanted to watch it again. Totally love Kwong Wah's and Wayne Lai's characters! Felt very nostalgic after finishing it :)

2) The Tough Side of a Lady ft Wong Hei and Marianne Chan
Mainly re-watched this for Wong Hei, who's such a great actor that's unfortunately underrated at the same time. Though it failed to give the great legend of Mulan any justice, Wong Hei and Marianne Chan still managed to make it enjoyable for me.

3) The Legend of Lady Yang ft Kwong Wah, Anne Heung and Melissa Ng
To be honest, this series is bad.  I just re-watched it solely for Kwong Wah and Melissa Ng.  As mentioned, I really miss Kwong Wah and so have been trying to re-watch him lately.  He's one of those actors (that we rarely see nowadays) who can pull off such a royalty look!  No wonder he acts in so many emperor roles!  As for Melissa Ng, I absolutely adored her character in here!  Probably the only character that is worth watching :P

Oh another point that makes this series standout is the attire of the ladies!  Absolutely gorgeous!  Don't tvb usually store their old costumes?  Where are all the costumes from here!?  Especially those beaded head ornaments?!  Ugh I am absolutely irritated by tvb recent ancient jewelleries (so golden and heavy)!!!!  Terribly tiring for the eyes to see...

4) Gods of Honour ft Benny Chan, Kingdom Yuen, Irene Wan etc
I always tend to re-watch this since I have the dvd's.  And everytime, there would be a part I'd cry for Kingdom Yuen.  She truly excelled in her role.

As I was re-watching it though, I began to notice some plot holes that I never noticed when I was small x)  haha.  Now thinking of it, Irene Wan's (the main leading lady) role was very badly developed or rather wasn't developed at all.  Such a pity since her character definitely got the potential to be more than what was given.

Besides Kingdom's character, my other favourite characters includes Henry Lo's (Bi Gan) and Rosanna Lui's (the queen).  I also want to add how awesome the bird god's costume is!!!  Seriously!  Look at his beak and forehead!  How did they do that!?  More importantly, if they can do that back then....why are they failing at something like old wrinkles?!  (in The Last Steep Ascent)

4) Night Journey ft Yuen Wah, Louisa So, Cheung Kwok Keung, Danial Chan, Halina Tam etc
Let's just say I really miss those series of 'jumping vampires'!!!  They were so popular back then but unfortunately, none are produce nowadays.  Such a pity because I really loved them  Q.Q

Night Journey can be a bit silly but that does not prevent me from enjoying it!  Found Yuen Wah and Louisa So quite cute together :)  Also great to see Chor Yuen again after so long.  Love that guy and his character was quite funny to watch too.  haha

5) War of the Genders ft Dayo Wong, Carol Cheng etc
When was the last time I laughed out loud while watching a series?  Maybe there was a few here and there during Night Journey and The Tough Side of a Lady, but not that much :P  Re-running the 50 episodic series/sitcom, I finished it in a blast.  A very enjoyable series (though some sub-story were a bit boring), that you should definitely watch if you haven't already done so yet.  Dayo and Carol totally rocked those 50 episodes and for the boring sub stories, I'd pass forward towards their parts!  haha x)  They're so comical!

Oh, Dayo Wong is said to be filming a series for tvb this year.  Unfortunately it won't be War of Genders 2 because Carol doesn't want to film again (she's hosting) :(  Such a pity....but at least Dayo will be back for a series, which I'm anticipating for more info!!!

Wong Hei Treated Coldly On His Last Day At TVB

Wong Hei (王喜) worked at TVB for 16 years and suffered from cold treatment in recent years. Eventually, he decided to leave the company due to dissatisfaction. On September 29th, Wong Hei’s TVB contract officially expired and he left with mixed feelings.

Although Wong Hei was good friends with TVB executive, Stephen Chan (陳志雲), Wong Hei was not promoted at the compnay. In fact, the Artist Management department suggested that Wong Hei pay money to terminate his contract early. The turn of events made Wong Hei disheartened. Before leaving, Wong Hei returned to his locker at TVB City to obtain a few items and take pictures. He had mixed feelings and did not expect to be faced with further unsympathetic treatment by the staff, who had terminated his employee ID card access rights to the premises in advance.

Wong Hei worked at TVB for many years, delivering numerous classic performances in highly rated series, including the three installments of Burning Flame <烈火雄心>. However, his workload plummeted in recent years. Rumors suggested that he did not get along with TVB executive, Virginia Lok (樂易玲). Accused of not delivering enough [vendor] show appearances, Wong Hei was advised by the Artist Management department to terminate his contract early by paying a fee. This cold treatment gave Wong Hei a great sense of helplessness and made him highly uncomfortable.

Difficult to Say Goodbye to Producer Amy Wong

Last night, Wong Hei packed his possessions from his personal locker, #181, and to say goodbye to the people he cherished. On his blog, Wong Hei posted photos and expressed the mixed feelings he felt on his last day at TVB.

With his 16-year career at TVB, Wong Hei had the most difficulty in bidding farewell to Producer Amy Wong (王心慰). Last night, Wong Hei stopped by Amy’s office to reminsce over past memories, which made him feel emotional and started crying. ”This is the mother of ‘Yau Chi Tak,’ ‘Lok Tin Yau,’ ‘Kei Tak Tin,’ and ‘Chung Yau Sing.’ Over the last 16 years, Amy Wong was the producer who trusted me the most. She allowed me to inject blood, tears, and soul into the characters which she created. For each role, I asked her: ‘Did I portray the role as you imagined it to be?’ Each time, she will look at me steadily before saying: “Sometimes you did and sometimes you did not. You can do better, but let’s drop the matter.’

“Ha ha, this evening, I deliberately entered Amy’s office after work hours to secretly take pictures for memories’ sake. My intention was that I did not want to cry in front of Amy. Unfortunately, my tears are currently falling while I am typing these words right now.”

Employee Access Canceled Prior to 12 Midnight

As TVB’s former “biological son,” Wong Hei recollected upon some old photos [that were posted in TVB's offices], “This photo was taken in 2006, after I signed a management contract to become a ‘biological son.’ The Artist Management department designed my image. At the time, I had quit smoking and thus my face was plump ha ha, but unfortunately it did not produce a ‘cute’ effect which made everyone love me. Ha ha, all along, I felt that this wall, which is filled with artist head shots, reaked of an ash smell. Do you share the same feeling?”

Before leaving TVB City, Wong Hei wanted to take a photo with the company’s mascot, TV Buddy, but he discovered his employee ID card was denied access. “When I wanted to go past the main gates and outside the door to take pictures with TV Buddy, my employee ID card was denied access. I only had access to the parking area, while entry to other locations were canceled. One of the security guards said surprisingly, ‘Although it was not yet 12 midnight, the access has been canceled already? Isn’t that too cold?’ I asked, “Can you open the gate and let me take a picture before leaving? I will leave from the parking lot afterwards.’ He said, ’Sure.’”

Future Path to Be Announced

Wong Hei’s final words to TVB were: “Thanks to TVB for giving me challenging and life-risking opportunities over the last 16 years. Hopefully, from now onwards, everyone’s futures will only grow better and better. Bye bye lah!”

Although TVB was not the place for him, Wong Hei will find the proper place for him. Recently, Wong Hei was contacted by Now TV executive, Ho Lai Chuen (何麗全) to discuss program hosting opportunities. Asked about his future direction, Wong Hei indicated that he was currently negotiating with other producers and will reveal his career plans later.

Clarified That He Did Not Tamper With Scripts

Appearing on an interview program with mainland’s Phoenix TV, Wong Hei admitted that he was a little “naive” and was willing to bear the work environment at TVB for 16 years because he wanted to repay the company. “Prior to entering TVB, I was unemployed for 9 months. Precisely at this time, TVB called me.” For many years, Wong Hei was accused of tampering with television scripts and plagued by negative rumors. Through different platforms, he hoped that audiences realized he was not this type of person.

Recently, Wong Hei also discovered that many people treated him very well, such as offering him work and worrying about his future without a job. Upon saying this, Wong Hei’s voice choked and he started wiping away tears.

Linda Chung supports Wong He, he's good to communicate with

Wong He often gets rumors with his other co-stars during filming, yesterday Linda Chung voiced out her support that he is sincere, hard working, competent and expressed that they discuss with each other, she does not feel that Wong He is annoying.

Yesterday Linda and Wong He were filming for their new series "Cross Boundary Exploration", Linda opened up and voiced out her support for Wong He, she said: "Changing the script, many people would do that. Sometimes changing just a little bit, I don't feel it's a problem otherwise we'll all be like robots. Our collaboration this time includes many discussions. He's always rumored to not get along with his co-stars, I feel bad for him. He is a very good person."

Wong He has not been affected by the negative news. Yesterday he was filming for a car explosion scene where he saves someone under the hot weather. Although the car was just as hot as the fire because the sun had been shining on it, but he still continue to bear with it to shoot the scene. During filming, there was the fake blood rolling into his eyes, but he still continued with it without complaints. Also part of the scene, Kingdom Yuen said: "Look at me, I invited you to have some ice cream to cool it off, don't you think it's nice?"

Thoughts: Wong He is very unfortunate with all those negative news, but I'm happy that he isn't affected by them. It's just like in high school, there are always rumors going around and getting affected by it isn't worth it. I see that Wong He is a very professional actor, since he puts in all his effort while filming.

To me, I think Wong He is just more of a straight forward person, and of course not everybody get along with each other, since everyone have their own flaws. Like me for example^^ ...hehe......Still, I also think he can be a sweet person and playful at the same time too from all the pics. from his blog xD ...... He also seem to like taking pictures alot xD
