2012 Highlights

Highlight #1 - The Hippocratic Crush

A touching themesong, a well-written script and a great assembled cast all tied together to result in this awesome series.  The Hippocratic Crush is engaging and kept me going for the entire 25 episodes.  Let's just say that that is very impressive because I do not often find myself chasing after the recent tvb series.  The casting is also something to like about, a balance between the experienced and the newbies...but with an equally distributed amount of screentime among all.  Tvb often focuses too much on the main characters, which can easily become boring.  So I liked how the smaller characters also got a sub story of their own, giving the newbies a chance to show what they've got without being too over the top.  Overall, definitely give the series a chance if you haven't already done so, as there are some touching scenes that you should not miss out!

Highlight #2 - Bottled Passion

The cast is not exactly attractive, since there are no big names in here but even so, no doubt that the acting was solid.  A series of revenge and romance, you will fall in love with Tung Pun-Sin (Raymond Wong) for his cunning yet loving nature.  Raymond Wong definitely shined in his role and made the character come alive.  His love story with Tsui Sum (Niki Chow) was heart-wrenching, which will require a box or so of tissues to go along with.  Storyline wise, it's a bit slow in the beginning but don't give up too soon because it's worth it....until the last episode (?).

Highlight #3  - Daddy Good Deeds

Unlike the other two series, Daddy Good Deeds is a comedy.  With a sweet light-hearted script, the humour does not feel force or pointless like some previous tvb comedies are like.  All the casts were naturally funny too!  After the series was finished....you can say I was abit sad because I felt so attached to the characters.  I truly miss seeing them onscreen.  Even though I did think the ending was a bit rushed, it's still an appropriate ending for a great comedy!  Need a few laughs here and there?  Watch Daddy Good Deeds because it is no doubt the best comedy this year...or should I say, for the last few years.

Highlight #4 - Gill Mohindepaul Sing also known as Q Bobo

I had troubles choosing if I should highlight No Good Either Way or not.  Overall, the series was good but things felt a bit unreasonable towards the end.  So after debating here and there, I chose to highlight Gill Mohindepaul Sing instead!  He's probably the best and altogether, my favourite out of all the No Good Either Way cast.

I liked Q Bobo since seeing Welcome to the House but have never seen him in anymore significant roles until No Good Either Way.  Once again he was lovable and proved to be a natural comedic actor!  Another reason why I decided to highlight Q Bobo is because he might not be able to act for tvb again, after emigrating to Scotland.  It's such pity seeing him go.

Highlight #5 - Oscar Leung

I think it's quite right to say that 2012 is Oscar's year.  This man is a talented actor and with the help of 2 well-received characters, Cheuk Yuen in Tiger Cubs and Ka Hong in L'Ecargot, he's finally the talk among the audience.  To voice out my opinion for the upcoming awards, Oscar Leung definitely have my support in the competition for Best Supporting Actor this year along with Ram Tseung!

***More to come in part two since I don't want to have so much in one post.

No Good Either Way Overview

What is this about?  Basically a story that revolves a group of employees who have to deal with their good/bad bosses.  No Good Either Way feels like a sitcom in certain aspects with it's casting and also for the office setting.  At first I didn't really want to watch it but the themesong attracted me.  It's quite catchy and is nice to listen too.  To me the themesong is the hook because if it's something I don't like, I tend to watch a few episodes but later give them up.  Quite weird...but so far working nicely.  If the themesong is nice, the series usually turns out good but if not....eh.

Now is the series good or not?  Would I recommend it or not?  After putting up the poll, I notice how....controversial this series is.  For me, it's actually one of the better series this year.  I admit it did get a little boring/annoying when Ruco's character turned abit...unreasonable but overall, good series.  At first, the storyline did really feel like a sitcom with no point but you just have to give the series abit of time.  You'd come to appreciate the characters and the casts.  To me the plot didn't really matter because it were the characters themselves who drove the plot.  The characters were all funny and the chemistry among the casts were also something to appreciate.  It was definitely a fun series to watch :D

Ruco Chan as Alex.  Maybe it's just me, but I was not exactly crazy over Ruco in The Truth.  I actually like him better in here as the fun but rather stubborn Alex.  He can do comedy, and I love seeing him with Louis Yuen.  Aside from the later half of the series, Alex was such a fun character to watch.  His curly hair also adds a nice touch towards his goofy image (he looks so cute).  As mentioned before though, Alex became quite unlikable towards the end!  Why?  Throughout the series, I guess you can say things went smoothly for him with family and friends to support him....but things just changed.  Held highly above all, Alex is a rather...how should I put it (?)..."obnoxious" in a way because he thinks he can solve anything.  In the end, he finally hit the rock and is unable to get out of the hole.  Trapped in the hole, everything was just about him from there.  I must say that was annoying how he never took the time to consider the feelings of others, especially his sister.  It was so frustrating watching him!  But on the other hand, I felt that if it was me, maybe I'd be the same too.

Kristal Tin as Ling.  Rather plain and a simple character, Ling is quite likable because she doesn't like to compete with anyone.  Haha it's quite odd to think that she could get such a high position in the company behaving so.  It's her pure personality that makes her stand out though I guess.  I think luck plays a big deal in life, and she got that.

Kristal and Ruco surprised me with their sweet interactions.  The way they held each other and all showed how comfortable they were together.  Very good chemistry :)  Near the end where there relationship was about to end...I felt terrible for Ling.  Alex was really unreasonable then...making Ling feel like that the guy she love had turned into a stranger.

Louis Yuen as Steve.  He represents the people who puts in all their effort in hope of something, but ends up with nothing.  Steve got the experience and the skills, but he lacks the luck.  I felt quite bad for him because he've worked so hard for 10 years, just in hope of a promotion.  Reality can be cruel sometimes and it's just something that many of us nor Steve can control.  Louis is so funny as Steve and his parts with Interpal, Alex and Mr.Diu were probably my favourites.  Hehe once again bromances beats the romances :D  They always manage to make me laugh when they're together.  On a side note, I read some news that said Louis improvised his lines alot...which I think probably brought in even more chemistry with his co-stars.

Gill Monhindepaul Singh as Interpal.  First of all, his name is long to spell!  Now back to Interpal, himself, I think he's my favourite character out of the series.  This guy can do comedy and seems to steal the screen whenever he appears.  I remember he was quite funny back in the sitcom, Welcome to the House, where he paired up with the nerdy Kingdom Yuen (they were so cute!) too.  It's quite unfortunate that he's leaving tvb though...I really like him.  As for Interpal, he's just the kind of guy full of ideas...really remind me of a kid who wants to do everything that is within their imagination!  Interpal also served as the comedic relief when the series moved into it's dramatic mode, so that makes him even better.

Florence Kwok as Violet.  Florence have always been a great actress to watch and I haven't seen her in awhile (since she seems to act in sitcoms more nowadays), so it was nice seeing her again.  Violet may be b*tchy but I found her rather cute at times when she's with her cousin (Kaki Leung).  So yah, she's mean but not in a way that I absolutely despise her but rather in a funny way.  Haha can't forget the scene where all the staffs were watching in hope that she'd trip....too bad she didn't :P  Violet lacked development though.  I wish something more was done for her character....because she's more of a silly antagonist than a true evil one.

Stephen Au as Sam/Mr.Ko.  Like Florence, I rarely get to see Stephen either because he usually films sitcom.  Ok seriously, why can't they both film series?!  Since tvb is lacking acting talents, these two should seriously be pulled out!  They're both amazing!  Since Florence is in the King Maker...ok I won't complain too much, but Stephen!?!  Even though the supporting actors tvb uses now (if you noticed...they've been repeatedly used in the last few series aired) are great, it's still nice to see some new faces.  Stephen Au can act and I love him, so tvb should use him in some of the series.  Yah.  Haha back to Mr.Ko as the nice and compassionate boss, to be honest...I have nothing much to say.  The ending where he won the 500 employees over was touching though (but still terribly unrealistic).

Natalie Tong as Kin.  Jason Chan as Aaron.  Matt Yeung as Mr Ho.

- The last series I watched Natalie in was Sentinel, where I found her rather...forced.  Remember back when she won an award for her role in A Fistful of Stances?  Maybe I was too into her character that I missed out on some scenes where she exaggerated....and only noticed it when I re-watched the series last week.  I saw it in Sentinel though, but luckily I found her better in No Good Either Way :)  Think she've definitely improve.

- Jason?  This is the first time I've seen him and unfortunately, not so impress.  I personally liked the other guys in A4 better...especially..that guy...the guy that I don't know how to describe and have forgotten the name of.  Back to Jason, maybe it's his character?  To be fair, his character is quite despicable so that may have affected how I saw Jason.  On the other hand...Jason just seems "dull" and "fake".  In the the description, Aaron is described as a charismatic guy....and Jason did tried.  I just didn't feel anything (even before he turned bad).

- Matt Yeung.  Hehe I like this guy and thought his character was also so cute.  Maybe it's the way he talk....I love how Mr Ho only speaks in one tone along with his one expression face.  I can't help but laugh because his face is so expressionless!  (his character is suppose to be like that though)  He's also so caring towards Kin but too bad she likes Aaron.  Mr Ho was so funny in the end where he asked Kin to be his girlfriend by showing her his whole profile (investments, health etc).  Cute...but I don't think he'll get a girlfriend that way :P  Poor guy....

No Good Either Way - Mr.Diu

Ok...I wrote out these paragraphs but now have to re-write it because my internet wanted to be stupid -.-

Anyways, I am actually pretty caught up with No Good Either Way. On episode 14 right now :) Before I write anything though, I would like to mention that I really miss Louis's feminine house tenant, Mr Diu played by the actor Anthony Ho.

His last scene is in episode 6.
Interpal fixed a broken oven and left it in the kitchen. Mr.Diu came in to cook something and...."KA BLAM!!" Explosion :P Poor Mr Diu was sent to the hospital. Big surprise?? Turns out that Mr Diu is actually straight and even have a wife! His wife is much older than him though...haha. Reason why he rented a room is because the couple were having a fight. His wife wanted to get botox injections, which he disagreed too because he believes in natural beauty.

LOLS It was so funny hearing Mr Diu change of tone. He stopped using his whiny voice and actually deepened it during this scene x) Quite surprise he actually have a wife....not to mention an older wife. lols their reason for the argument is also hilarious!!!!! Getting botox :P btw I'm on Mr Diu's side :0

So that was the end of it...little onscreen time, but definitely left an impression :) See Anthony's facebook: http://www.facebook.com/hoyuentung

No Good Either Way Thoughts 1

Let's make this short and quick ;D  I have watched up to episode 6 :)

- Louise Yuen and his house tenants. Absolutely hilarious every time they are together :D Haha there is never a dull moment of them!

Interpal's and Louis's first interaction was so cute!! Lols the first thing he said when he saw Louis was, "I want to kiss you!" Haha scary? At first Louis was like....what the heck? But after he found out it was Interpal, his old school mate, they started hugging and stuff! Then at the restaurant, a couple was looking at them in admiration...the girl was complaining to her boyfriend how he should be like Louis (wiping Interpal's mouth etc). lols so warm!!!

Then there is the part where they pretended to be a couple in order to scare Mr.Diu!!  Lols Interpal slapping on Louis's butt x)  Mr.Diu's expressions are priceless!!  Haha the may he reacted when Interpal shook his hands...xD

As for Louis's feminine tenant, Mr Diu. No words can explain how much I love him!! The way he talk is so funny!!! His whines...and also his pouts! Lols! He shined in all his scenes! oh!!! His MURSE too!! haha..murse=man purse! Love, love, love!!! The first time when he was looking at Louis's apartment...and also at the same time, looking up and down Louis's body! lols hilarious! I also love he always want to keep everything clean.

- Florence Kwok! Even though she plays the bad character...she's funny in her way x) Haha the part where she was walking but then tripped....it was so funny how everybody was just leaning forward in hope that she's fall flat on her face! She's evil, but smart :)

The part where Florence's cousin filmed Stephen Au's talking to his wife (ho he really loves her but actually don't want her to wake up) was also funny. During that scene...I actually felt quite bad for Stephen and it's suppose to be a heart-wrenching speech but Florence was just eating her salad and watching the clip x) The way she reacted to it was really funny, turning such a serious moment to a funny one.

-Ruco Chan and Krystal as a couple? They are pretty convincing since they seem so comfortable together :) During the part where Krystal talked about how they met...before that, there was a scene where she told Ruco that the weather forecast (he accidentally gave it away) have a very special meaning for them and that they can't lose it. Ruco just nodded and agreed...but in fact, he said in his thoughts...he really didn't know what was so special about it.

Haha I liked that part because the situation is something true. Girls often remember the sentimental value is the smallest things, while guys would think "what's so important about that?"

During the flashbacks though, Krystal thought Ruco was pursuing her when he gave her the weather forecast thing. From Ruco's expression though, we know that he just merely gave it to her...no real special intention there :P haha...

-BROMANCE!!! I love bromances...guys always spark up this special chemistry that girls can't. That's why I love it whenever tvb put a group of guy friends in. Always manage to get some laughs out of it!! Must say, the guys are my favourite part of the series right now :)

Haha I will soon be writing a post on the bromances I've seen in previous tvb series :D

-Overall, the storyline feels like a sitcom but rather enjoyable :)  From the screencaps, it is quite obvious what I enjoy most about the series so far :P  Since it feels like a sitcom...there is not much going on so far.  Nothing exciting but a relaxing watch for the day :)

[News] Ruco Chan denies being a 'seun poon'

Ruco Chan, Kristal Tin, Louis Yuen, Q Bobo, Lee Yee Man and the rest of the cast of TVB series No Good Either Way had Indian cuisine to celebrate the success of the series. However, the leads Ruco, Kristal and Louis weren't the ones who paid for the meal, it was in fact, Q Bobo who treated everyone. It turns out he was very happy that he was able to participate in singing the theme song, have more screen time in the series and Indians often appeared in the series. Due to this, he happily treated everyone to a night of fun.

Ruco is very pleased that the series is getting good response. He was actually afraid people would scold that there were less funny moments, but rather more black humor in the middle of the series, but luckily no one scolded. Asked if his 'first line Siu Sang' seat is stable now? Ruco laughed: "Can I still be a Siu Sang at this age? I really don't know! (Michael Tao can?) Don't I have to be at that age, but I'm not mature enough to be a Siu Sang or first line. This is more about recognition from the public and gaining their acceptance of my acting experience." After Moses Chan, is he another 'suen poon' (best deal), even Lee Yee Man wants to get to know him? Ruco said "crazy", only his family fights over him. Currently, Lee Yee Man and Selena Li are his just colleagues.
