Turning Point 2 Overview

*a very rushed review I did before forgetting the whole movie!*

Synopsis:

Towards the end of TVB series, Lives of Omission <潛行狙擊>, “Laughing Gor” Michael Tse was sentenced to life imprisonment after murdering Bosco Wong’s (黃宗澤) character. In prison, Laughing met Francis Ng (吳鎮宇), a university professor imprisoned for drug possession. Despite the professor’s gentle and aloof exterior, he was a vicious, cold-blooded criminal. Furthermore, the professor was a criminal psychologist able to discern other people’s inner secrets and dark side. Due to such abilities, the professor was able to silently control others.

At this time, a mysterious woman, who worked for high level Security Police unit, visited Laughing in prison. Laughing’s imprisonment was spurred by his role in an undercover assignment. It turned out that another person was responsible for Bosco Wong’s death. Suspecting that the incident involved a corrupt police force, the Deputy Secretary for Security Police assigned Laughing to investigate the case while posing as an inmate.

Laughing Gor: Turning Point 2 stars Michael Tse, Francis Ng, Chapman To, Bosco Wong, Kara Hui, Kate Tsui and Janice Man.

My thoughts on the series...
My overall thought on the series is neither negative nor truly positive. First off, I think the plot line is terribly weak despite the lovable characters. Spinning off Lives of Omission, the whole movie was only dedicated to the series. That really upsets me because with such interesting characters, this movie could have easily been a standalone movie featuring Francis Ng's character. The repetitive features on Laughing is personally annoying me. You would think that the multiple explosions of his identity should have stopped his undercover career by now....but NO. He just pop up even more -.- What's worse is the limited character development we see in him. I appreciated his character in EU but after a few more spin offs, his character still stay....the same, which doesn't make me expect more than what I had already seen in the prequels. Once a breakthrough role, it can never be one again....because it won't be as "fresh" compared to the first. Hmm....tvb is really trying to milk out all the money they can get with this character and in which it is pretty successful so far....

It is obvious that Laughing Gor is the main character...hence the movie's name Laughing Gor: Turning Point 2. Unfortunately the limelight is stolen by the supporting stars and especially his leading co-star, Francis Ng who plays this intelligent professeur. Honestly, the professeur is a very interesting character and even though Laughing Gor is suppose to serve as the figure of justice, I emphasized much more with Francis Ng's. He's the reason why I am liking the film more than I should.

The professeur's idealogy is quite interesting...and is something that is worth exploring. A memorable quote of his, "Every revolution in history...begins with a crime..." It is true isn't it? Instead of going for more Laughing Gor series and the multiple undercover stories, why not take the time to produce a movie/series on this professor instead?

*on a side note: His character really reminds me of Damien Lau's in Catch Me Now. Both believe in what they are doing, in which the cops to not...while neither are purely evil or wanted harm to come to anybody. Of course, Francis's plan is more on the extreme side...but still, a lot of similarities in both.

Oh my...after Michael's (Bosco Wong) death, his fiancee (Kate Tsui) went insane. Was there a purpose for her character? Umm...not really, beside the fact that she was in Lives of Omission...and I guess they can't just kill her off in the movie right?

Then there is Bosco Wong as Michael whom does not have much screentime, but I guess is still important since he was the reason why Laughing got into prison...

Neither Bosco or Kate stood out a lot, but it were the veterans who did. They even overshadowed our main character, Laughing :0 In a sense that they were much more interesting to watch. Haha the last time I watched Chapman To was in My Date with a Vampire...now he's popular in the movies industry :)

The ENDING

-Guess what? Laughing dies! As horrible as that sounds...he's finally dead! So that means there won't be any more Laughing Gor?? WRONG! There's a new movie that will be featuring the beloved LA (Kevin Cheng in Ghetto Justice) and Laughing Gor! Though I was not happy at first, the cross over between these two popular characters doesn't sound so bad does it? It is actually quite interesting...and smart :)

*side note: I always think that Michael Tse is a talented actor...but yet because of one popular hit, he is typecasted into this one role. A pro? He's making good money :P A con? His talent is losing it's shine :(

So that's the end of it everybody!! I would totally write a whole post on Francis Ng's character if I had time...but unfortunately I don't. For those looking for a good movie to watch...this isn't what I'd recommend you. On the other hand, Francis Ng deserved to be seen in here! :)
