[Comments] TV Awards Presentation 2017

Best Series
"My Ages Apart"

Comment: I am glad that 'My Ages Apart' received the award. For a 50 episode drama, I was pleasantly surprised at how it remained entertaining until the very end. It was quirky, comedic and engaging throughout the whole drama. I remember laughing out loud at a few parts of the series and honestly, I have not done so with a TVB drama in awhile :) The whole cast also gave a great performances with a group of endearing characters. I personally loved Moses and his random spurts of English, along with Paris' ditzy but pure-hearted character. The trio of Bobby, Moses and Louis was also a charismatic bunch to watch whenever they appeared together.

My memorable mentions for 2017? The other hot contestant for best series in the media was 'The Exorcist's Meter'. Honestly I would've been happy if this drama won as well. While 'My Ages Apart' kept me entertained on every episode, the latter was endearing, emotional and managed to pull a few of my heartstrings. In particular, the music scores in here were especially memorable.

My personal runner-ups for this year would also include 'Destination Nowhere' and 'My Dearly Sinful Mind'. Kristal Tin and Kevin Cheng were just great in their roles in 'Destination Nowhere'. Honestly, Kristal Tin performance in here should've earned her the Best Actress award as it was phenomenal in my opinion. As for the drama itself, story was engaging and the anticipation to see how it would unfold was rewarding. For 'My Dearly Sinful Mind', I found Kenneth Ma's character so odd with the obsession over his girlfriend's death but rather enjoyable as he began to find more clues to his questions. Grace Wong's character in here was especially intriguing to watch and was probably the highlight for me.

Anything else? I did not watch 'Tiger Mom Blues' or 'Legal Mavericks', where both series were very popular as well.

Best Actor
Vincent Wong ("Legal Mavericks")
Comment: I did not watch 'Legal Mavericks' and so cannot comment on Vincent's performance in here. On the other hand though, he has been a very capable and dependable actor so I am very happy for his win! Personally a fan hehe :D

Special mentions for this year? Moses Chan in 'My Ages Apart'? I personally loved him in there and thought he did a great job. After so many bad roles, I'm so glad to see him taking on a more interesting role. He does so well in roles that has a mixture of comedy and drama.

Best Actress
Natalie Tong ("My Unfair Lady")
Comment: Wait what? I thought she was a supporting actress in there? It is so sad how few real contenders there are in the Best Actress sector, whether it's this year or prior years. Kristal Tin hands down got my vote for this award.

Most Popular TV Male Character
Kenneth Ma ("The Exorcist's Meter")
Comment: Yups, can't argue here haha

Most Popular TV Female Character
Sisley Choi ("Legal Mavericks")
Comment: Interesting...was her character popular from here? My personal favs are Moon Lau in 'The exorcist's Meter', Grace Wong in 'My Dearly Sinful Mind' and Ali Lee in 'My Ages Apart'.

Best Supporting Actor
Joel Chan ("The Unholy Alliance")
Comment: cool

Best Supporting Actress
Rebecca Zhu ("A General, a Scholar and a Eunuch")
Comment: I just can't anymore....I am not happy with any of the female recipients this year.

Most Improved Male Artiste
Mat Yeung ("My Dearly Sinful Mind", "Bet Hur", "Love and Construction", "All Work No Pay Holidays (Sr.2)")
Comment: Interesting...he've been acting way too long for this award I think haha. Was definitely expecting Matthew Ho cause there was just so much rave over him.

Most Improved Female Artiste
Mayanne Mak ("Miss Hong Kong Pageant 2017", "Sammy on the Go", "Line Walker: The Hunting Game", "TVB Anniversary Gala")
Comment: Who is she? Q.Q

Most Popular TV Partnership
Edwin Siu, Raymond Cho & Matthew Ho ("A General, a Scholar and a Eunuch")

Starhub Awards 2014 - Fashion Comments

Taking a selfie at the ceremony :)
Starhubs once again held their annual tvb award ceremony about a week ago? I'm not too sure...so outdated haha. Anyways, here's the usual fashion comments I have for the ladies! You can also view my old post for 2013's ceremony.

Best Dress:  Singaporean Actress with her goldfish dress
Worst Dress:  Lin Xia Wei in her night gown

What are your thoughts?

Lin Xia Wei (Rosina):  Hmm..the dress looks like a night gown.  So sad.  As for why Lin Xia Wei was there (I was surprise to see her), it's because the themesong she sung for Outbound Love won the favourite tvb themesong award.  Honestly, I am surprise.  I didn't know the song is so popular!

Linda Chung:  Linda won "My Favourite TVB Female Character" and "Most Beautiful Artiste".  Honestly not a fan of Kai Kei but I am still happy for Linda.  As for her dress, that it quite a horrendous choice.  The fabric pattern is too busy.  At first, I only saw the top half of the dress and initially thought it was a cheongsam.  At that moment, I was thinking that it would be really beautiful!  Unfortunately it turned out to be a baggier dress.  Meh.

Eliza Sam:  Eliza won the "TVB Most Improved Artiste" award.  Her dress is definitely one of the better dresses of the night.  Though simple, it does look gorgeous on her.  I also am a big fan of the colour yellow, it's such a bright and cheerful colour that is not often worn and so I'm glad to see it on Eliza.

Nancy Wu:  Nancy won the "My Favourite TVB Female Character" award for her role in "The Ultimate Addiction".  I'm neutral towards her dress.

Singaporean Actress:  Dang, I don't know who she is but all I got to say is that she was the best dress of the night!!  I absolutely adore her dress!  Love the mixture of the red and white and overall, the structure of the dress.  It's translucent white fabric with the red really reminds me of a goldfish :)  So pretty.

Kristal Tin:  Kristal won the "My Favourite Female Character" award for her role in Black Heart White Soul.  Personally her dress was a bit boring...like all the other dresses besides the goldfish dress.

Kate Tsui:  Kate won the "My Favourite Female Character" for her role in Bounty Lady.  I initially really liked Kate's look but after looking it more closely, I probably liked it because Kate had her hair down and curled.  I love it when she curls and let down her hair.  The dress though, I am not a big fan of.  It's alright.  Personally do not like the way the black strap are positioned...

Charmaine Sheh:  Charmaine won the "My Favourite Female Character" for her role in Line Walker and "My Favourite TVB Actress".  I'm so happy Charmaine won both of these awards.  Well deserved.  On the other hand, I am so dissapointed that Raymond did not get a fav character award for his role in Line Walker :(  Anyways, back to Charmaine's dress.  I'm neutral, nothing exciting but not to absurd either.

Sharon Chan:  Sharon won the "Favourite Supporting Actress" award.  So...Sharon is quite popular in Singapore?  I personally do not agree with this award....not one single bit.  As for Sharon's dress, it reminds me of a ballerina dress.  I think the dress is cute, but the style (showing off the legs) is getting old for Sharon.  She need to wear other kind of dresses...

[Thoughts] TVB Anniversary Awards 2013 - Winner List

Best Actor in a Leading Role: Dayo Wong - Bounty Lady

Dayo was the only TV King nominee that was absent from the awards. Among the top three candidates, the panel gave him the lowest score (19.87), but combined with the votes, he got a total score of 48.04 (second place had 42.29). When it was announced Dayo won the award, it was truly a surprise. The MC Dodo Cheng called Dayo live at the show, and conducted a quick interview with him. Dayo expressed he's in Shanghai and when he learned he just became TV King, he joked and asked who voted for him? When he learned it was half-half by audience and a professional panel, he happily said: "This award is worthy of acknowledgement." [Translated by: aZnangel @ http://asianuniverse.net]

Thoughts: I am still in shock. Wow...I didn't believe it was possible for Dayo to get this award BUT HE DID AND I AM SOOOOOO HAPPY!!! Truly deserving!! This guy is an amazing comedic actor, the way he talks and his body language, he just keeps me glued to the screen.
And I love how Carol called him live at the awards, very sweet haha. If only he was there :P

Best Actress in a Leading Role: Kristal Tin - Brother's Keeper
My Favorite TV Female Character: Yiu Man Ying (Kristal Tin) - Brother's Keeper

This year, there were five awards that allowed the audience to vote; The Most Popular TV Male & Female Character awards were 100% voted by the audience. Best Actor & Actress awards, half voted by the audience and the other half decided by a professional panel of judges. Results, there were 931,487 votes; 100,614 of the votes went to Kristal Tin for Most Popular TV Female Character and 77,948 of the votes went to Chilam Cheung for Most Popular TV Male Character. [Translated by: aZnangel @ http://asianuniverse.net]

Thoughts:  Even though I did not watch 'Brother's Keeper', I am still sure that Kristal is a deserving winner.  She's a solid actress and I am so glad that she came back to TVB.  Always enjoy her onscreen and so CONGRATS for the winning!!!  hehe right now I'm waiting to see her and Roger Kwok in their new upcoming series!

My Favorite TV Male Character: Jayden Koo Ha Yeung (Chilam Cheung) - Triumph in the Skies II

Thoughts: Expected since Captain Koo is pretty popular.

Best Series: Triumph in the Skies II

Thoughts:  Didn't watch this series so no comment.  Expected though, since it was so popular :P

Curious thought, what was your favourite series of the year?  I've only watched a few and only liked some such as Inbound Troubles, Karma Rider, Awfully Lawful, Will Power, Always and Ever (mainly because of Esther Kwan) and of course, Bounty Lady.  Those were the only ones I thoroughly enjoyed....such a short list :/

Best Actor in a Supporting Role: Benz Hui - Bounty Lady
Best Actress in a Supporting Role: Elena Kong - Triumph in the Skies II

When Elena Kong won Best Supporting Actress, she cried emotionally on stage and her colleagues all stood up to applaud for her. She looked up and exclaimed: "Mom, I got the award!" Elena expressed a few years ago, she wanted to give up on acting because she didn't have an audience to watch her performances. She is grateful TVB adopting her and joked she has to thank Kenneth Ma for willing to "swallow" her.

Benz Hui was the Best Supporting Actor winner, everyone stood up to applaud him. During his acceptance speech, he joked and asked whether any of the audience turned off their televisions and expressed TVB is actually very innocent. It is not TVB who issues the TV licenses, the audience should be turning the government off. Benz continued emotionally: "I feel surprised getting this award. Last year I got the most outstanding performance award and this year I get one again." [Translated by: aZnangel @ http://asianuniverse.net]

Thought:  Both are TRULY WORTHY for their winning and I am so happy for their recognition!  Always loved Benz Hui, especially in comedies and Elena is just an amazing and diverse actress!  Congrats!!!

After watching the show, saw that the audience (ie the audience that they were sitting with...?) stood up and clapped for these two :)

Most Improved Actor: Vincent Wong
Most Improved Actress: Eliza Sam

Thoughts: Hands down for Vincent Wong! This guy have been taking on a variety of roles this year and proved that he is deserving of this award! Especially in Will Power, where he portrayed that bastard, Gilbert, it was such surprising transformation! Glad that he was the one who won!

As for Eliza Sam, I'm not sure if I'd say she's the most deserving of the five but I do not object to her winning either. From her debut in Divas in Distress, Eliza took a huge leap, in terms of her emotional scenes.  While this girl can be a bit over the top with her happy scenes, she's just naturally gifted in her emotional scenes. For a newbie, she can surely cry!

Most Outstanding Artists: Suet Nei, Mary Hon, Anderson Junior, Helena Ma, Lau Kong

Thoughts:  Once again some recognition for the veterans, all who've served TVB for so long :)

Best Variety Show Host: Tony Hung, Priscilla Wong - Pilgrimage of Hope

Best Variety Show: Three Amigos Bon Voyage

Lifetime Achievement Award: Lau Siu Ming

Thoughts:  Love this actor!

Mainland China Most Popular TVB Actor: Kevin Cheng
Mainland China Most Popular TVB Actress: Tavia Yeung

Overall Thoughts:  All the results were surprisingly satisfying this year, especially the Best Actor and Actress award :)  An upcoming post regarding the artistes' attire will be up soon!

TVB 45th Anniversary Award Ceremony - Fashion Comments

*** I talked less and less near the end because I was tired :P  haha.

Fala Chen always manages to look beautiful in everything she wears with her bright smile, that amazingly outshines everything :)  The dress by itself, is rather lovely with the beads designs.  Anyways, Fala's attire was one of my favs of the night!  btw I wonder why she walked with Raymond....where's Roger?

*** I am confuse.  Didn't Fala recently post a picture of her new short haircut?  Why is her hair so long here !?  O.o

Niki's got a great smile and very fair complexion, don't you agree?  Sadly, I was not too fond of her dress choice since I felt that it made her look very 'flat-chested'.  While trying to be revealing, the dress actually scares me with how steep the angle the top tried to come down to the waist at (last picture).

Last but not least, of course there is Raymond Wong's suit :P  Though I am not a particular fan of his suit choices, I cannot help but smile because they are always accompanied by a cute bow tie.  hehe

Linda's dresses for the last few tvb awards ceremonies have been either great, or straight out odd.  For this year's dress, I must say despite the negative feedback I've heard, I don't think it is so bad.  There are only a few turnoffs, such as the transparent layer near the stomach, which I would've preferred to be all white instead.  Then there's the back which is actually not so bad and I don't mind it too much.  If I were to make changes to it though, I'd just take away all those sparkles, raise the deepness of the uncovered part to Bosco's thumb (picture), and ta da!  Just a plain open back, which I think would accordingly fit the dress's simplicity.

Putting the dress aside, the main problem I had with the whole look was the choice of lipstick colour and the swept off bangs (?).  The pale pink lipstick totally threw off the whole look for me, since it made Linda seem so pale.  With white being the central colour of the outfit, a dark red would've been the better choice and it'll make her stand out more too.  As for the hair, beautiful how it was braided to the side but I did not like the swept bangs!

Oh, I must add that I really like the bracelet (or whatever it is) that she wore on her left hand :)  Think that it was a nice touch to the dress, since the dress itself did not have much to it..

Walking down the red carpet with Linda was Bosco Wong.  I am glad that his choice in attire is more 'tamed' this time. haha...Bosco is indeed very good looking but I just don't get his fashion sense sometimes xD

Can anybody tell me why Mandy's dress look so familiar?  I think I've seen it before but just don't know where...

In the previous years, Mandy's fashion at events such as these has not been to my favour.  That is why I had wondered what she would wear to this year's ceremony (knowing that she's the most likely one to grab the award).  To my surprise, her dress and make-up are much more natural this time around and the short hair styled quite well with the whole look!  The lime green pick is also a great colour choice for the dress since it's such a lively color compared to the other dresses.

Then there's Oscar Leung, who wore overalls.  Why?  haha I can't help but smile at his smile though x)

I am not usually a fan of the dresses with the flaps (?  lols what are they called?) around the waist but Kate carried it well.  Something I like about Kate and thinks stand out about her is simply the way she carries herself.

Among the actresses, Nancy's shimmering scaled dress was definitely my favourite!  Usually too much shine can get tacky, but hers was showed off in a very elegant way.  I especially like how the scales 'shedded' towards the end of the dress, which balanced the dress (not too much sparkles) out.  To add on to that, the front of the dress is simple but the back compensates with its deep revealing cut.  That added an extra 'wow' factor to the dress.

Related to Linda's dress, Nancy's bare back is what I meant when I said Linda should've lost her sparkles.  Also, I just noticed that Nancy's hair and Linda's were both braided back.  Unlike Linda though, there was not that extra bang.

As for the two handsome guys who walked with her, Vincent and Him, both were very nice in their suit!  On the other hand though, Vincent's shoes were very ugly and did not match the suit at all xD

Aimee walked the red carpet with Moses in a bright red dress with a revealing cut that showed of her legs.  Though the dress is nothing new, Aimee looks beautiful in it :)  Oh on a side note, I'm curious why Aimee doesn't grow her hair out.  Anybody knows?

For some odd reason, looking at Moses short pants and boots reminded me of Raymond Lam.  Lols I guess that Raymond wore something similar to that somewhere...I think.

Definitely agree that Christine is a very beautiful girl that knows how to choose her dresses.  The fabric design is beautiful and the choice of hair/acessories went accordingly with the dress.  Unfortuantely, one flaw of the dress is that extra black piece of fabric that covers the end of the dress.  I absolutely hate it for some reason.  With it on, the dress reminded me of those old vintage lamps (...maybe because of the poofy shape it adds to the dress?  I don't even know why o.O).

Walking next to Christine, Eliza fell short out of sight.  I thought a better hairstyle would've helped Eliza out and the dress also fell short of my expectation.  In my opinion, the dress didn't really suit her.

Myolie always got a distinct style from the others.  The dress by itself looks very nice since I quite like the style, but I would find it more suiting with long hair (swept of to the unexposed shoulder).  Now putting the dress aside, the problem lies in Myolie's makeup!  They definitely put too much makeup on her face since it's quite obvious how 'pale' it was compared to the rest of her body.  So yah...that was bad.

The one with the greatest fashion sense out of all the siusangs, Kevin Cheng looked dashing in the suit!

Michelle Yim appeared in a very unique dress with the combination of both Chinese and modern style, which was very beautiful because of that.  My complaint though goes to the choice of accessories such as the diamond necklace.  It looked too 'modern' for the dress and so therefore appeared as big mismatch.

The winner of the Best Actress of the night, Tavia Yeung walked down the red carpet with Kenneth Ma who won the Favourite Male Character award!  Both matched fairly well with their attire don't you think?

While I really like Tavia's dress, I would have chosen something different for the accessories.  Taking a look at dress with it's sparkling design, the extensive sparkling necklace was a pain for the eyes.  Basically too much sparkles going on at once.  So a simpler necklace/bracelet would've fitted the dress more.

Love Kenneth Ma but that extra bit of the suit was not very pleasing to the eyes.  Lols I am talking about that extra layer underneath the jacket.  The design reminds me of undergarments =.=

Together with Nancy's and Fala's, Cilia Kung's dress is included in my top 3 favourite dresses of the night!  I absolutely love the design of the ripples, which made the dress much more fun looking and lively compared to the others.  Fits Cilia's cute image perfectly :)

Katy Kung's dress had the potential to be something like Cilia's since the bottom looks pretty fun too.  Unfortunately, the top part of the dress was also too poofy and therefor just made it unnecessarily big on Katy.
